The Diners Club | Animal

The Diners Club continues...The monthly review by four self-proclaimed discerning bellies & occasionally two beastie bellies.  So, I just might be the 5,345,896th person to review Animal, the restaurant.  I'm feeling alright about that.  In a nutshell, Animal is pretty much good.  Do you like meat?  Do you like tasty meat?  Do you like tasty, tender, juicy meat?  How about tasty tender meat, with gravy, and then on top of FRIES?!  DID YOUR MINDHOLE JUST EXPLODE?  Well, it should've.  Because, that particular dish my friends is nothing short of spectacular.  

A few dishes that really stand out in my mind beyond the beef/gravy/over fries dish -- are the sweetbreads dish -- which had initially scared me.  Fear not friends!  Sweetbreads -- actually quite tasty, esp. prepared Animal style.  And there was a side of delicata squash which had me swooning.  For real.  I was singing it's praises for a good portion of the evening.  At the very end we ordered a rack of ribs -- nice light closing to the meal.  They were good, not amazing, but good.  But, I think by that time it was like... "That was really meat-y".  My recommendation is to not over-do it on the ordering even though the smells from the kitchen will lure you into wanting more and more... Go forth and get your Animal on.

The Diners Club.  Four self-proclaimed discerning bellies and occasionally two beastie bellies.  Two of our most favorite activities are eating and talking about what we'll eat.  Fortunately, our Poketo buddies are also of that mind and stomach and we've joined belly forces, made some selective restaurant choices (12 to be exact) and will visit and review one a month for the entire year of 2010.  

First up, Good Girl Dinette.

The restaurant had a good vibe, very modern diner-esque.  Clean lines, great chairs and limited color scheme.

Their tag line is "American diner meets vietnamese comfort food."  There were so many fun things to choose from on their menu, the hard part was limiting it down... but we ended up with a smattering of yummy things to sample.

Some of the most favored dishes of the night: Fries!, Beef stew (regretfully, I didn't get a good shot of that), sandwiches-chicken and pork (amaaazing).  They use local & organic meats ...mmm tasty meats.  I could skip on the fried spring rolls and even the pint-sized pho was just OK.  But the prices were all set at about $3-$10 per dish, so that's a huge thumbs up in my book.  Also, it's beastie-friendly, or as some might call it- kid-friendly.
