December | 27th

No school, no rushing out the door, no none of that.  Today we slept in, had a late breakfast and a fun day of puppy-sitting and horse riding lessons ahead of us.  Yay!  Both activities were fun-filled, and also had their fair share of mishaps along the way.

To my graduate...

Dear Hana,

Today is the last day of Kindergarten for you.  Next year, you're onto the BIG playground - woah!  It has been so much fun (mostly) watching you experience and grow through this year.  You've got buddies who you call your "girlfriends" and "boyfriends" and just recently you explained to me the meaning of "B.F.F.".  You're excited to be a first grader and are already asking what types of things you will be learning and wanting to know how to do them, so you'll be "PREPARED".  This is something I know a lot about.  Your father plays it very cool and he takes things as they come.  But, you are like me in the whole PREPAREDNESS gene.  Sorry, it's a blessing and a curse.  Today we'll get a scoop of ice cream to celebrate your Kinder achievement and the start of summer days.  I know it's only Kindergarten but in some ways you are growing up SO DARN FAST -- let's stretch this summer out K?  K thanks.  Love, Mama

The Diners Club | Good Girl Dinette

The Diners Club.  Four self-proclaimed discerning bellies and occasionally two beastie bellies.  Two of our most favorite activities are eating and talking about what we'll eat.  Fortunately, our Poketo buddies are also of that mind and stomach and we've joined belly forces, made some selective restaurant choices (12 to be exact) and will visit and review one a month for the entire year of 2010.

First up, Good Girl Dinette.

The restaurant had a good vibe, very modern diner-esque.  Clean lines, great chairs and limited color scheme.

Their tag line is "American diner meets vietnamese comfort food."  There were so many fun things to choose from on their menu, the hard part was limiting it down... but we ended up with a smattering of yummy things to sample.

and a little something sweet to end the evening..

Young beastie taking it all in.

Some of the most favored dishes of the night: Fries!, Beef stew (regretfully, I didn't get a good shot of that), sandwiches-chicken and pork (amaaazing).  They use local & organic meats ...mmm tasty meats.  I could skip on the fried spring rolls and even the pint-sized pho was just OK.  But the prices were all set at about $3-$10 per dish, so that's a huge thumbs up in my book.  Also, it's beastie-friendly, or as some might call it- kid-friendly.

Planes, Trains, Automobiles, HORSES! and glamour donkey

We met up with the East Coast side of our family for Christmas down in South Carolina.  Aiken, SC to be exact. After a plane ride, airport train (they count!), and car ride, we made it to Granny & Gramps' house.  One special part of the trip for our kids was seeing the HORSES! Getting to ride on the HORSES!  That's how they refer to them now.  It's not like, "isn't it cool that granny rides horses?" It's more like "GRANNYS HORSES! I WANT TO RIDE THE HORSES! and also, LETS DECORATE HER DONKEY!(I'll get to that part)". It was fun for me to capture the equine adventures.  Horses are just so darn photogenic.

Our eldest, had a very specific request to DECORATE THE DONKEY!  Granny being the kind soul that she is humored the child and let her decorate. the. donkey.  No animals were harmed during the process.  At least, not permanently.  Feast your eyes on glamour donkey!

Christmas Cheer

Are you one of those crazy people who puts their radio station to Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving..or (gasp) even before Thanksgiving just to get that extra bit of Christmas cheer rolling in?  Well, if you are, THEN WE'VE GOT SOMETHING IN COMMON.  I looooove the Christmas season.  Here are some pictures of our little ones bringing in some of that cheer, along with balloons and fluffy flower headbands and girly things galore.  Like, purple! shiny! shoes! But, I digress.  We hope that you are enjoying the remaining weeks of Christmas-palooza!

Merry Christmas! May it be filled with lots of love and lollipops.

Halloween | 09 | Minnie Squared.

Happy Halloween!  What a fun time of year it is.  The beasties were super into it.  Here's the eldest beastie drawing up how the ol' pumpkin should look before we carved it up.  We had a fun day of carving pumpkins, toasting up pumpkin seeds, making this which caused our house to smell *insanely* good.  You must go make this recipe.  I mean, that is if you're into that whole insanely good smells and tastes thing.

The beasties dressed up as Minnie Mouse big and Minnie Mouse mini.  Pretty darn cute.  And they hung with cousin D the infamous sushi chef!  It's amazing the things that kid can do with a rice paddle.  I think the most fun the kids had of the night was waiting for trick or treaters to come to the door.  Here they are one by one descending upon the trick-o-treaters with mucho gusto.  They younger beasties would yell things such as "DOORBELL!" "TRICKERS" "CANDY!" "MASKS!" "SCAREEE!" "MORE!" "WEEN WEEN HALLO WEEN"  Ween Ween Happy Halloween Everyone!
